Transportation: Background

The air transport and automotive industries
traditionally are the biggest donors within the transportation sector.
Within these groups, however, the bulk of the money comes not from
airlines and automakers, but from car dealers and the nation's two
largest delivery services, UPS and Federal Express.

Big givers
within this sector cheered Congress' passage of a bill to reauthorize
federal funding for transportation projects. The bill, which passed in
the summer of 2005, was supported by President Bush even though it
broke spending limits he had ordered Congress to abide by.
