CHILE: Government Official Sues Company Sending Mercenaries to Iraq
A Socialist deputy has taken legal action against the head of a company recruiting Chilean military personnel and adventurers in order to send them to Iraq as mercenaries.
Santiago, Chile -- A Socialist deputy has taken legal action against the head of a company recruiting Chilean military personnel and adventurers in order to send them to Iraq as mercenaries.
The action on charges of illegal assembly was filed before Santiago´s 17th Criminal Courtroom by parliamentarian Alejandro Navarro against former Chilean Army officer Jose Miguel Pizarro, current president of the Red Tactica (Tactical Network) company.
The issue has made headlines after a horrifying report published by La Nacion daily with new evidence on the trafficking of mercenaries.
The report is based on an account given by two brothers, a former member of the Army and a former police officer, who returned to Santiago after a miraculous escape from the Arab nation.
Navarro told Prensa Latina this new evidence was more than enough to make Chilean Judicial Power and government to intervene and order an investigation into these criminal actions.
The Washington-based Red Tactic has offices in Uruguay and other Latin American countries, including Santiago. Its chief Pizarro is a former Chilean Army Lieutenant, also a former member of the US Army and former CNN commentator during the war in Iraq.
